As an American who grew up in Germany, I'm devoting this channel to the great actors and personalities of two continents. Vivien Leigh is my main interest, followed by Lilian Harvey. These two British girls remain iconic film figures of two countries foreign to them.
Vivien Leigh will always be remembered for her powerful and mesmerizing American women in "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "Gone With the Wind."
Lilian Harvey was the embodiment of the Ufa film star of the Weimar period.
I have many favorites in addition to these two, and will post anything I think might be intriguing and interesting!

god... who is that hideous insufferable piglet of a man? vile. she exquisitely woman handled him...
Tynan is a jackass
What are the odds of one San Antonio native saluting another?
Scarlett O'Hara easily breakable? I don't think we watched the same movie Mr.Tynan 😂
Why did he say “good evening grandma?” Rude
Deliberate Cruelty is not forgivable
She verbally kicked Kens pretentious arse.
Улыбка Скарлетт
People should know when they're conquered.....
"If you step over to the express desk, i can take your confession now. "
This is show critics are a$shols now and then
This is very advanced interview for tv
If you've never seen Mildred Pierce it is definitely a great movie
One of my late friends met Vivien Leigh. I asked him what she was like. He replied - ENCHANTING. And that comes across so well in the interview. Mr Tynan, on the other hand........
Tim's Irish cop spoke Yiddish too! 🤣😹
Yes, INDEED we’re watching Cecil B. DeMille pictures 50 years later….they’re absolute masterpieces! And will be watched, praised, & treasured for many years to come.
Tynan is contradicting his own arguments and being tied in knots.
Scarlet O’Hara vulnerable and easily bended woman? Did this critic actually watch gone with the wind? The character was a puppeteer and a manipulator and strong as steel!
How we have regressed. Do you see how these people disagree when each other insulting each other? Can they be thinking insults? Perhaps. But there is self-control and civility.
Carol Burnett never invited Joan Crawford on her show. Ever. She knew what she did to those kids.
What an interesting but Messy Interview.....Both Leigh and Goldwyn are totally out - to - lunch in their Politics of Racial Representation and Ideology. Poor Ken Tyan is much too cerebral and critically conscious than Leigh. It's clear both Leigh and Goldwyn didnt read anything beyond their movie scripts !
I wonder how they would feel about Disney!
I just want to add something to the entir content...things have not changed one aiota
Mr K Tynan just trying to pick on Vivien Leigh who was i think absolutely fantastic in both Gone with the Wind and Streetcar , she was also marvelous in Waterloo Bridge and Ship of fools ... i Loved how Vivien took it on her criticism reg Southern Bell -"i guess i just have to get better" :) such a cool answer for an OSCAR winner.
Whoever said it is a small world is either a liar or a fool Concrete Blonde lyrics
She is brilliantly intelligent. Her beauty and talent lives on forever. Her poise and her articulate statements show what a force of nature embodied Ms. Leigh.
Ken Tynan, the critic with absolutely no talent is challenging Vivien Leigh who delivered the single best performance in motion picture history and has proven her talent both in the movies and on the stage. What an inane and boorish geek. Vivien Leigh does not need anyone to stand up for her Mr. Goldwyn. She has won her argument with intelligence, poise, and class. Whose work lives on? Vivien Leigh's work speaks for itself. She was beautiful and range is very much display in her work in GWTW, Waterloo Bridge, Streetcar named Desire, etc. My favorite actress.
Who does Tynan think was going to knock Scarlet O'Hara around. Life/civil war knocked her about but no person. Not sure if he ever watched GWTW.
Very handsome Esmond Knight 😊
I find it really interesting how most of the comments are about how great Vivien Leigh was. I don't dispute it, but there's so much more in this interview than the poise and grace of an actor. She knew that too, no doubt. She performs here too. Sam Goldwyn is doing his best at being himself, Tynan clearly has his stance needling away at Goldwyn, who remains unmoved and oblivious as to how he looks - lacking in awareness, a capitalist (democratic, if you like), experienced and canny, but also of an earlier time. Vivien Leigh knows she is being watched. Her level of intelligence is visible, she's clearly smart, but the seams are more visible than they are in her greatest performances.
It is really interesting though. You see a producer, a critic and an actor. There's differing levels of intelligence or comprehension, and different skills. They were all very good in their respective fields and all relevant.
Sam Goldwyn just shows his ignorance. I'm not saying he wasn't skilled or facilitated great art, but he doesn't really understand the conversation.
Love this movie parade so funny Carol Burnett and Vickie Lawerence are so talented.🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love how they have one of the most talented actresses there, waiting to talk while the guys settled some side beef 🙄 looking forward to (hopefully) hearing more from Vivien in part 2 lol
Vivien was a strong woman but had love and compassion. She really was special
This is a treasure. . .this is sheer genius. . .the original cast of the greatest ever American play. . .perhaps the greatest play of the world in the 20th century
3:26 Vivien’s double take when he brings up Shakespeare in reference to his own work 😂 she reeled that in… or did she let it show just enough? 😂 subtle legend.
Vivien will never be another.
Vivien grande❤❤❤
Love Vivien Leigh. She really made these men look very ordinary. Classy, intelligent, and Beautiful woman!!
Love Vivien for standing up to these men, especially the boorish Ken Tynan!
For anybody interested in Vivian Leigh, I recommend Patrick Stewart's autobiography. He creates a wonderful portrait of her when they appeared on stage together early in his career. She was the star of the show and he was an unknown minor player at the time, but she treated him very kindly. There's a very funny moment where Vivian is Patrick's partner in a game of charades at a party and she tries to get him to guess the title "Coming Through the Rye" - he didn't guess it but the gesture she made as a clue caused him to blush.
Thank you! And yesterday I finished Stephen Galloway's Truly Madly, which I highly recommend.
“I don’t need a brick to fall on my head!” *🧱🧱🧱 falls on head* lmao 😂 my favorite part!!!
This smarmy dude…what did Ken ever really accomplish. And also WHAT A WOMAN! ❤
He sounds offensive but actually makes sense. Female stars at that time did have to appeal to men and become damsels in distress. Scarlett was just the opposite of that and told in a great story which was turned into a great film, it remains timeless to this day. Inauthenticity is a factor. Since Vivien was told to tone down the southern accent for Gone With the Wind because they (the producers) thought it was too much for the audience. Actually, it was Hollywood's unwillingness to portray accents authentically. Mid-atlantic accent was literally adopted and modified for American actors at the time. So I can just imagine how much support the Japanese actress had for essaying the role of a Chinese character given how inauthentically Asian and other people from around the world were portrayed. It is telling that Vivien was the member in Streetcar who was most convincing as a southerner and in Gone With the Wind with Olivia de Havilland over their American co-stars so if Hollywood really wants to be authentic, they need to cast actors who at least have had some exposure with those regions/backgrounds that the characters are supposed to be influenced by. A non-American appearing more authentic to the place where the American character's background by a large margin is from over their American co-actors is a sign of failure of those actors. Their names are: Clark Gable, Marlon Brando, Kim Hunter and the actor who played Mitch.
I agree with everyone that Leigh is FIERCE here.
Ken was a boorish, sadist that thought he should do as he pleased and criticize the rest of the world. Pishhh
Ken doesn’t belong in that room
I remember when I was about 5 years old Judy would make me raisin toast with real butter. We only had margarine in our house. My sister and I would play make believe theater with Didi. We lived in the same apartment building.
Ken Tynan or what he calls him, is a 50-cent critic, like all critics, they are intellectually limited people, who only know how to criticize. Don't put them to make something, because they can't.
